Center for Assessment and Policy Development
The Center for Assessment and Policy Development
(CAPD) is a non-profit organization founded in 1987. Our mission
is to help institutions, communities, and public systems improve
outcomes for children, adolescents, and families. Issues on which
we work include: antiracism, particularly efforts to reduce or eliminate
institutional racism; improving the health, positive development,
and early school success of young children; family support and empowerment;
education; adolescent parenting; violence prevention; community
change; leadership; and civic engagement.
Our intent is to help those with whom we work
strengthen their own capacities to address these issues. We do this
by helping them to craft and execute thoughtful responses to pressing
social issues. We employ multiple strategies to carry out our mission.
For example, we plan, design and help to implement community/foundation
partnerships; write position papers and do policy analysis; and
provide evaluation and technical assistance for community groups,
non-profit institutions, state and local governments, schools, and
corporate and private foundations.
The theme that ties our work together is positive
social change. To each effort, we bring: extensive experience in
our fields of expertise; familiarity with a broad range of strategies
that promote change at family, institutional, community, and system
levels; and an analytic approach that fosters state-of-the-art solutions
to complex and long-standing social problems.
